Frequently asked questions

Here you’ll find clear answers to some of the most common questions about People Centered

No. While People Centered approach began in the humanitarian sector with a focus on protection its values and methodology are relevant across sectors: development, peacebuilding, philanthropy, and even corporate social impact. Wherever people aim to support others in situations of vulnerability, People Centered offers a dignified, co-creative approach.

People Centered isn’t a fixed-length methodology. Some steps can be integrated into existing processes, while others may take days or weeks, especially when building trust or working in complex environments. It’s about depth and quality, not speed. However on average the approach adds some steps at the initial stage of the engagement with the people and communities.

No, it complements them. People Centered brings in risk, power and protection analysis alongside needs. It ensures communities define what matters most and that solutions don’t unintentionally increase risks or undermine dignity.

Not at all. People Centered is flexible and scalable. Small organizations often find it aligns naturally with how they already work — it just gives structure and recognition to the value of local knowledge and leadership.

This is a valid concern. Clear communication is built into each step. From the start, the process emphasizes transparency about constraints and shared decision-making, which helps manage expectations honestly. It’s not about promising everything it’s about creating space for what’s possible, together.

People Centered is about shifting power by putting people at the centre of solutions, co-creating change with those closest to the issue.
